Federal Reserve and Financial Markets



This course will cover the structure of the Federal Reserve System (the Fed) and the evolution of monetary policy. Key questions to be addressed include why the Fed was created, how the Fed interacts with the financial markets, and recent changes to Fed policy. In particular, we will discuss the responses of the Fed to the financial crisis of 2008 and the COVID-19 pandemic. The effects of monetary policy on interest rates and the exchange rate will also be covered. No prior knowledge of monetary policy is required.
