Lecture -- Representing the Divine in Christian, Judaic, and Islamic Art

The depiction and purpose of religious art of the three major religions has many more commonalities than differences. The use of symbols, narrative and design may achieve and expose monotheistic concepts of one God and evoke in the viewer a sense of awe and wonder in the art of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. Certain tropes are followed and some prohibitions are applied to distinguish one from the other. An overview of selected works will reveal beauty and design in the service of divinity.
